Edmund had always been fond of his royal robes, ever since the first time he and his siblings had come to Narnia and been crowned kings and queens. Back in London, their family wasn't poor, but they certainly weren't wealthy enough to have velvet gowns and velvet cloaks and tunics, and velvet bedspreads and curtains. He had seen velvet robes and tunics in the museum, and one of their neighbors had a velveteen upholstered sofa that had been left to them by their grandparents, but he'd never felt real velvet. It amazed him, the soft, thick pile, the way it felt so plushy, never rough if rubbed one way, and smooth if brushed the other.
The weavers had been so pleased to show off their workmanship, and so glad that their kings and queens were in turn pleased with everything they made. He even asked them, once, for yards and yards of it, just the raw fabric. Of course, no one questioned his request, and he never told them that he just wrapped himself in it and rolled on his bed, reveling in the sheer luxury of it.
But now, velvet holds even more meaning for him. He's always been a sensualist; always loved the sensations of rich fabrics against his skin, the tastes of rich foods, the pleasures of swimming naked in warm pools of water and playful embraces under splashing waterfalls. But the thing he loves the most is the feel of velvet over warm skin as he lies in bed with his lover and they playfully wrestle, or as he gently strips his kingly robes from him and strokes that warm skin itself. The contrast between the plush velvet and smooth skin is something he knows he'll never be tired of, and it always leads to heady kisses and soaring pleasures. And if they want, they can have yards and yards of it to wrap the both of them in.
