It was so hard coming back to England and being a young boy again after being a King in Narnia. Edmund knew all of them missed it horribly, despite the brave face Peter put on every day and the enthusiasm Lucy threw herself into play with. It seemed Susan was content to put on grown up airs and spend all her time fussing about hair and shoes and clothes, but he knew deep down inside even she missed it.
Despite all the horrors he'd faced there, despite the mistakes he'd made and the pain of nearly dying, he missed it with every cell of his being. Now he was just another boy in school -- quiet and bookish and just a little strange, they all noticed -- although fewer boys picked on him now. He suspected his knowledge of fighting and the muscles he was developing had something to do with that.
But above all, he wanted to go back. He felt, in his heart of hearts, that the greatest adventures were still to come -- but they were not going to come in England, that much was certain. Somehow, he had to find a way back to Narnia, where he knew he truly belonged. A way back that wasn't just a dream or a daydream, brilliant sunlight and dappled woods fading away to dull school rooms once more when he shook himself back to alertness. He was determined to find a way back, and he was sure the others all were, too. Someday, some way, they would all return to Narnia.
