Summer in Narnia was usually temperate, but there were occasionally hot spells -- hotter than Edmund was used to in London, certainly. On days like that, when the sun beat down on their heads as the royal hunting party rode out looking for game, he found himself very much wishing his own dark hair were more like Peter's -- golden to reflect the sun, instead of dark to draw in the heat.

They would stop during the hottest part of the day and let the horses rest; spend time lying in the shade of great trees or wading in the streams, letting the refreshing cool water coming down from the mountains soothe their overheated muscles.

Caspian would tease Edmund about his sunburned nose and cheeks, commenting on how he seemed to be permanently blushing -- and then Edmund would blush, because he knew that soon he and his lover would steal away to a secluded bend in the stream, or a pool made by a splashing waterfall, and find other ways to get overheated that had nothing at all to do with the sun or the temperature of the air.

Summer sometimes brought discomfort, but Edmund loved it nonetheless, because the pleasures it brought were more than enough to make up for it.
