He rolls over and stretches, then snuggles against his companion and wraps them in the fur once more, smiling contentedly at the heat from the fire at his back and the delicious warmth of his companion against him. A lazy night in the royal hunting lodge, with fine wine, roast pheasant, and his lover -- it doesn't get any better than this, and Edmund relishes the chance to enjoy it to the fullest.

"You are a sensualist," Caspian observes, running his fingers through Edmund's long hair and then stroking his cheek. "If I had but known, I would have made sure to wrap you in furs ages ago," he adds with an affectionate smile.

"It wasn't always this way, Cas. For the longest time I hated fur -- it only held bad memories for me," Edmund says softly. And this isn't anything he's told anyone before, but now he feels the urge to tell his lover; to explain things about the first time he and his family stepped foot in Narnia.

"Tell me, sweet one," Caspian says softly. They are only three years apart, and Edmund is one of the great kings of Narnia, but he feels a strong urge to protect him nonetheless. Sometimes, it seems to him, he can see the sad young boy that Edmund used to be, before the Battle of Beruna and his coronation so many years ago.

"When I first entered Narnia, I met the Witch. I was just a boy, I was angry at everyone, and she made me feel important and special. I was freezing because it was the Hundred Year Winter and I was wearing short pants, and she wrapped me in her furs and gave me hot chocolate and enchanted Turkish Delight... She made me feel all warm and good and... everything about it was wrong. Oh, so very wrong..." Edmund says very quietly.

"And later, when all four of us came through the wardrobe, Peter shoved a fur coat in my face. I know he was just poking fun, but it was a girl's coat, and when I complained he didn't care. He just said 'I know,' and smiled that annoying smug smile of his..." And when Caspian frowns, Edmund adds hurriedly, "It wasn't his fault, he didn't really know how much it... where we come from, two men don't..." He sighs and shakes his head, "He just meant it in fun, he didn't realize how much it hurt..."

"Did he ever apologize?" Caspian asked softly, stroking Edmund's cheek and kissing him gently.

"He did," Edmund answered with a slight smile. "He apologized about a lot of things, and I realized he had no way of knowing what I was going through because I never talked about it. I was too ashamed, and too hurt, and wanted to seem strong..."

"You are strong, my sweet one. I still can't comprehend living in a world that doesn't accept love just because of who the two in love are... it seems so wrong to me."

"And to me, too," Edmund answers, snuggling close and pulling the furs tighter around them. "I don't hate fur any more," he whispers, pulling Caspian down into a warm embrace.
